Professor Samuel Mukasa, Executive Vice President and Provost of the State University of New York (SUNY), and Thomas Carter, Director of International Education of SUNY, visited Henan Agricultural University (HAU) on September 6, 2023.

Guo Zhanwei, Vice President of HAU, met with Samuel and Thomas at the Longzihu campus in Zhengzhou, Henan. Heads of International Exchange and Cooperation Office, School of Forestry, School of Landscape Architecture and Art, School of Plant Protection, School of Life Sciences and relevant teachers attended the symposium.

Guo welcomed the visit of Samuel and Thomas and briefly introduced the basic situation of HAU. He pointed out that the cooperation between HAU and SUNY began in 2019 and has achieved fruitful results over this years. In May 2021, with the support and witness of the Chinese Consulate General in New York, the two universities jointly signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Academic Cooperation and the Double Degree Cooperative Education Agreement for Undergraduates in Landscape Architecture and other documents, and jointly established several innovation teams to lay a solid foundation for subsequent in-depth cooperation.

This fall, SUNY greeted the first batch of international students from HAU. Guo also welcomes outstanding students from SUNY to study for Master’s and PhD degrees in HAU. The two universities should make every effort to promote exchanges and cooperation in all aspects and cultivate more young talents. He also hopes that both universities can carry out in-depth exchanges based on the successful experience of previous cooperation and further enhance the friendship between the two universities and promote multi-disciplinary, all-round and deeper cooperation between the two universities.

Samuel introduced the basic situation of SUNY and its teaching and research in the fields of environmental science, biotechnology and other fields. He also hoped that the two universities would actively promote substantive exchanges and cooperation and promote common development.

The two universities conducted in-depth discussions on joint training of undergraduates and Masters, teacher exchanges, and scientific research cooperation between the two universities, and reached a broad consensus.

Jie Xiaolei, Principal of HAU, met with Samuel and Thomas after the symposium and welcomed them.

The School of Environmental Science and Forestry of SUNY was established in 1911 and is one of the 64 member campuses of SUNY.
