Henan Agricultural University is one of the earliest providers of continuing education (formerly known as adult education/adult higher education) in Henan Province, continuing education, full-time undergraduate education and postgraduate education together constitute the university’s talent training system. In 1963, the university (then known as Henan Agronomy College) established the Department of Correspondence Education, which was merged into the Office of Academic Affairs as the Section of Correspondence Education when the university was renamed Henan Agricultural University in 1984; in 1986 the Department of Correspondence Education was restored as an independent department of the university, and was successively renamed the Office of Adult Education in 1988, the School of Adult Education in 1995 and the School of Continuing Education in 2004. With excellent scores, HAU passed the evaluations for continuing education organized by the Education Department of Henan Province in 1996, 2004, 2018 and 2023; over the past 60 years, HAU’s continuing education has trained over 70000 graduates of various levels and types.

The School of Continuing Education undertakes the dual function of education and administration, being responsible for recruitment and teaching of degree/diploma programs as well as management of non-degree training programs. Based on HAU’s abundant and quality education resources, the School keeps exploring new education fields, improving education conditions, enlarging education scale and upgrading education level. At present (Dec., 2023), the School consists of five sections namely the Administration Office, the Recruitment Section, the Training Center, the Academic Affairs Section and the Student Status Management Section, offers 17 top-up undergraduate programs for junior college graduates through correspondence education, possesses 11 staff members and 9538 students.

In the new development era, HAU’s continuing education will conscientiously implement the Party's education policy, persevere in the socialist orientation in education, adhere to fostering virtue through education and assume the responsibility of boosting agricultural prosperity. The School of Continuing Education will adhere to HAU’s mission of Enriching the lives of people and advancing the progress of society and motto of Virtue, Discipline, Truth, Action, focus on connotation construction and quality enhancement, strive to build a continuing education system with appropriate scale, reasonable structure, distinctive characteristics and outstanding advantages, provide the public with high-quality, multi-field undergraduate degree programs and non-degree training programs and better serve national and regional economic/social development.
