  • The College of Veterinary Medicine at Henan Agricultural University (HENAU) has a long history, dating back to 1927 when she first started enrolling students as the major of Animal Husbandry. The discipline of Veterinary Medicine began to recruit master’s students in 1985 and doctoral students in 2003. In 2007, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People's Republic of China approved the establishment of the first-level post-doctoral mobile station at the College of Veterinary Medicine; in 2010, the college was authorized to assign the first-level discipline doctoral degree; in 2021, the college was approved to assign the professional doctoral degree. In recognition of her achievements, the college was selected as one of the first eight A-level dominant disciplines in Henan in 2015, receiving a construction fund of 100 million Chinese yuan. She also passed the inspection with outstanding results in 2019. In 2020, the college was selected as one of the first batch of A-level characteristic backbone disciplines in Henan with a top score and received a construction fund of 50 million Chinese yuan. In 2021, the college was selected as a double world-class discipline with an annual construction fund of 100 million Chinese yuan. In 2022, the discipline of Veterinary Medicine received a B+ rating in the fifth round of discipline evaluation of the Ministry of Education of China, and was selected into the priority development list of the 14th Five-Year Plan of the Ministry of Education in the field of veterinary. In 2023, the College was honored with the title of Advanced Unit of Henan Education System.  

     

    The College of Veterinary Medicine owns 6 teaching units and 3 practice teaching bases, with 150 faculty members. Among them, 83 hold senior titles and 114 have doctoral degrees. Notably, the faculty includes 1 Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 foreign Academician of Russian Academy of Engineering, 1 distinguished young scholar of the National Science Fund, 2 leading talents of the national Ten Thousand People Plan program, 1 young top-notch personnel, 2 outstanding oversea young scientists, 2 youth Cheung Kong Scholars, 3 teachers selected by the national Millions of Talents Program, 3 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions at the national level, 5 experts receiving government special allowance, 2 scientists of the national modern agricultural industrial technology system, 2 “Henan Province Scholars”, 2 Henan Distinguished Professors, 1 Class A high-level talent of Henan, 4 Class B high-level talents of Henan, and 9 Outstanding Experts of Henan Province.

     

    At present, the college has more than 1320 undergraduate students and more than 650 graduate students. In 2020, Academician Gaiping Zhang was honored as the National Advanced Individual in fighting COVID-19 pandemic. In the same year, Professor Zelin Wang received the Outstanding Contribution in Science and Technology Award of Henan. The zoonosis teaching and research team of the College of Veterinary Medicine was selected as the first batch of Huang Danian-style teaching team, and was designated as the core member of the Innovation Team in Key Areas of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Additionally, in 2022, Academician Gaiping Zhang was appointed as the chief scientist of Henan Province to implement the strategy of innovation-driven, education-driven, and talent-driven development of the province.
