Our history began in 1902 with the establishment of the Henan Grand Academy. Its development is consistent with the history ofthe People's Republic of China. The changes of its name witnessed the growth from an institute with 20 teachers and 200 students, to a multi-disciplinary university with 2000 faculty and staff, 32000 students.

In 1902, the Qing government implemented the Late Qing Reform to save the ruling crisis. Educational reform is an important part ofthe Reform.Henan Grand Academywas established against this background, aiming at“cultivating talents and improving academic performances”, signifiedthe beginning of modern higher education in Henan.Then it was renamed Henan Academy for Higher Learning, and Henan Institute for Higher Learning.In 1912, during the Republic of China,it wasreorganizedas Henan Public Agricultural Specialized School based on the localgeographyandclimate, marking the originof AgriculturalHigher education in Henan Province.In 1927, Henan Public Agricultural Specialized Schoolwasmerged with the Henan Publiclegislative College and Zhongzhou Universityintothe Fifth National Sun Yat-Sen University, andwasrenamed theAgronomy Department of theFifth National Sun Yat-sen University.In 1930, Sun Yat-sen University was renamed Henan University, anditsname was changed to the Agricultural College of Henan University.It was granted university status and was named Henan Agronomy College when the colleges were rearranged nationally in 1952.During the Cultural Revolution, theCollege wasrelocatedto Xuchang and renamed Xuchang Agricultural College. After the Cultural Revolution,itmoved back to Zhengzhouandresumedthe name of Henan Agricultural College. In 1984, it was renamed Henan Agricultural University.HAU has become the first provincial agriculturaluniversityunder the province-ministry co-construction in December 2009.In 2012, it became the co-constructed university by State Forestry Administration and the provincial government. In 2013, Henan Food Crops Collaborative Innovation Center initiated by HAU had been included in the“2011 project”.These splendid achievements in development highlight the school's rich educational heritage andrender the name“Henan Agricultural University”abundantmeaning and aspiration.
