The College of Veterinary Medicine follows the innovation-driven, education-driven and talent-driven development strategies as directed by the provincial committee of the Communist Party of China and the provincial government. The college is dedicated to the Double First-Class construction and has made significant progress in developing first-class disciplines. In 2022, the discipline of Veterinary Medicine received a B+ rating in the fifth round of discipline evaluation of the Ministry of Education of China, and was selected into the priority development list of the 14th Five-Year Plan of the Ministry of Education in the field of veterinary. In 2023, the college achieved a ranking of 43rd in the Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) and 7th in the Shanghai Ranking's Chinese Ranking of Best Academic Subjects. The disciplines of “Botany and Zoology” and “Microbiology” supported by the college were ranked in the first 1% of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI). Since 2020, the college has established 6 new provincial or national research platforms and recruited distinguished talents, including 1 foreign Academician of Russian Academy of Engineering, 2 youth Cheung Kong Scholars, 2 outstanding oversea scientists who were honored with the distinguished young scholar of National Science Fund, and 2 experts who were honored with the distinguished young scholar of Henan. The faculty members have also received numerous awards in recognition for their teaching achievements. For example, the faculty members have won 1 second prizes of the national teaching achievement awards, 1 special prize, 1 first prize and 1 second prize of the Henan teaching skill competition, and 1 second prize of the national teaching innovation competition for university teachers. Two faculty members were honored with the Outstanding Contribution in Science and Technology Award of Henan, and 1 faculty member was selected as the ELSEVIER “Highly Cited Chinese Researchers”  in the year of 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. Lastly, the college has collaborated with the Chinese Academy of Engineering to organize the International High-Level Forum on Engineering Science and Technology for 3 years in a row.
