The predecessor of the College of Forestry was the forestry specialty founded in 1912, which has a long and deep history. There are 106 active faculty members in the college, including 23 professors, 42 associate professors and 84 teachers with doctoral degrees. Through the college consists of 4 departments of forestry, tourism management, environment and ecology, 1 central laboratory, 13 provincial and ministerial-level and above research and teaching platforms, 1 national agricultural science and education personnel training base, and more than 20 various cultivation bases and internship bases. It has a post-doctoral research station of forestry, a workshop for scientists and scholars of the Central Plains, a doctoral program in forestry, two master's programs in forestry and ecology, and two master's programs in forestry and tourism management. Forestry and ecology are the key disciplines in Henan Province, and the forestry discipline group is selected as the A class construction sequence of the characteristic backbone disciplines in Henan Province.

There are seven undergraduate majors in forestry, economic forestry, intelligent forestry, tourism management, environmental engineering, environmental science and ecology, covering four major disciplines: agriculture, engineering, management and science. At present, forestry is a national first-class undergraduate major construction site, a national featured major, and a pilot major for the reform of the National Excellence in Agriculture and Forestry Talent Education and Training Program. Environmental Engineering is a first-class undergraduate program in Henan Province, a featured program in Henan Province, and a pilot program for comprehensive reform of majors in higher education institutions in Henan Province. Tourism Management and Environmental Science are first-class undergraduate programs in Henan Province. There are 1561 undergraduate and graduate students in the university.

The college has long emphasized scientific research and academic exchanges. In the past 10 years, it has undertaken more than 200 scientific research projects at national, provincial and ministerial levels. It has won two second prizes for national scientific and technological progress, and more than 40 second prizes for scientific and technological achievements at provincial and ministerial levels. With the United States, Japan and other countries of the famous universities to establish friendly relations of cooperation, formed a strong academic atmosphere.

The college has long adhered to the road of combining teaching, scientific research and social service. More than 20 stable teaching and production internship bases have been built in and outside the province, among which Jigongshan National Agricultural Science and Education Talent Cultivation Base has become the first national internship base of the university; the teachers and students of the college go into the front line of production to carry out scientific and technological promotion and technical service all year round, which makes important contributions to the economic and social development of the province.
