The College of Plant Protection's commitment to being rooted in Henan and serving the entire country is exemplified by their dedication to writing papers on the ground. Despite facing challenges, the faculty members have consistently conducted innovative scientific research, resulting in significant contributions to agricultural production in Henan and beyond. This commitment to research excellence was evident as early as September 1930 when Zhi Tu, the founder of the discipline, published the first research paper from Henan Agricultural College in a foreign journal, titled “Research report on millet resistance against Smut in North China” in the American journal Phytopathology. In 1990, three teachers from our college, Shouzheng Wang, Wen Tan, and Zhenya Shi, were granted funding from the National Natural Science Foundation, playing a crucial role in our university's achievement of a breakthrough in National Natural Science Foundation projects. Shouzheng Wang continued to receive funding from the National Natural Science Foundation in 1992, further highlighting the college's commitment to scientific research.

Over the past five years, the college faculty has been actively engaged in various research projects at different levels, including national, provincial and ministerial levels. These projects have been funded by prestigious organizations such as the National Natural Science Foundation, National Public Welfare Industry Special Project, National Key Research and Development Program, and Henan Provincial Major Science and Technology Special Project. As a result of their hard work, the college has been honored with 10 provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological achievement awards, with 2 first prizes and 1 second prize specifically for scientific and technological progress in Henan Province as the first completion unit. The faculty members have also made significant contributions in terms of intellectual property, with 42 national invention patents granted. Moreover, they have played a crucial role in the formulation and issuance of 8 industry or local standards in Henan Province. In terms of academic publications, they have published more than 380 papers, including 251 papers in SCI journals. Additionally, they have authored over 20 monographs and national planning textbooks. The college faculty has also actively participated in academic conferences, successfully hosting more than 10 international and national events.
