The College of Horticulture was one of the earliest to establish a specialized talent training cradle for horticulture among the many horticultural colleges in China. The college's history can be traced to a horticultural course of the Henan Public Agricultural Specialized School in 1913. The Horticulture Department was founded in 1927, and began recruiting undergraduate students in 1929. At the end of 2008, the College of Horticulture was established independently. Over the past 100 years, the college has always aimed at the international forefront of horticulture and the significant strategic needs of the central China economic district. It has made a huge contribution to the advancement of the national agricultural and forestry personnel, horticulture technology, and the development of related industries.

Currently, our college staff has 98 persons. There are 90 full-time faculty members, of which 22 are professors, 20 are associate professors, 14 are teachers with study abroad background. Among the members, 12 are doctoral supervisors, and 73 are master supervisors, 9 are young talents and 4 are top talents of Henan Agricultural University. Our college has 1461 students, including 1231 undergraduate students, 210 master candidate, 20 doctoral candidate.

In 2010, the College took the lead in carrying out the Excellent horticulturist Training Program in China, created the Trinity practical teaching model, and cultivated a large number of innovative horticultural talents with understanding technology, good management and management. The College innovatively implements the 1124 education model, focuses on ideological guidance and the construction of learning style, relies on the Four navigation project, continues to carry out the Horticultural Culture Festival and Tea Culture Festival, combines the growth law and development needs of young people with professional characteristics, builds a stage for the growth of students, fully stimulates the potential of students, and comprehensively improves the comprehensive quality of students.

In recent years, our college carries out 300 research projects at different levels, including 43 National Natural Science Foundation of China and 7 National Key Research and Development Program of China. The college has obtained 10 scientific research achievement awards at national and provincial levels, including 1 second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 first prize of Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award, 4 second prizes of Henan Province Science and Technology Progress Award, and 1 third prize of Henan Province Science and Technology Progress Award. Our college has also obtained one national teaching achievement award.

In the new era, the College of Horticulture will take advantage of the national strategy of rural revitalization, unite and work hard, and make every effort to innovate. We will take moral education as the foundation and strengthen agriculture and revitalize rural areas as our responsibility. We will strive to build the College into a training base for senior horticulture talents, a technological research and development base for modern agricultural supply-side structural reform, and an innovative highland for demonstrating and leading the horticultural industry in central China. We will make new and greater contributions to realizing the Chinese dream of rural revitalization.
