School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Henan Agricultural University dates back to the South Central Mechanized Farming Cadres Training Class in 1953, which originated from the Agricultural Mechanization Teaching and Research Section of Henan Agricultural College in 1957. In 1960, the Branch of Agricultural Mechanization was established. In 1985, according to the professional setting, it was renamed the Department of Agricultural Engineering. In 1993, the school was separated from the department and officially renamed the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. The discipline of agricultural engineering was selected as the Class A construction project of Henan Provincial Characteristic Discipline Construction Project in 2015, the Class A construction sequence of Henan Provincial Characteristic Backbone Discipline Group in 2020, and the priority development discipline of the Ministry of Education in 2022. The college has long upheld the high-quality party building to lead the high-quality development of the cause, adhered to the new development concept of quality, characteristics, talents, and services, focused on the fundamental task of moral education, took the road of focusing on agriculture, small comprehensive, big characteristics, and creating first-class. With the integration of new engineering and new agricultural science, and the construction of agricultural engineering disciplines as the starting point, with the core of improving the quality of talent training, the college comprehensively improves the quality of education and teaching, strengthens the construction of high-level scientific and technological innovation teams, strengthens the social service function, improves the degree system, expands the enrollment scale of graduate students, and promotes the connotative characteristic development of the college. The college strives to transform the advantages of high-level talents and scientific and technological resources into the realistic productive forces that support and lead the development of the college, further builds a discipline system with reasonable layout, optimized structure, resource sharing, and mutual support, realizes the expansion of the college's scale, adjustment of structure, and upgrading, and strives towards the grand goal of creating a first-class discipline of agricultural engineering.The college has one key discipline of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, one key discipline of Henan Province, and one post-doctoral research station.There is one doctoral/master degree authorized first-class discipline, four master degree categories, and nine undergraduate majors.Currently, there are nearly 2,200 doctoral students, master students, and undergraduates in the school. There are 153 faculty members, among whom 64 hold senior professional and technical titles such as professor and associate professor, and 106 hold doctoral degrees. The college has been approved 13 provincial-level or above scientific research innovation platforms and 3 provincial-level or above teaching practice platforms. The college is also the vice-president unit of Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering, Chinese Society of Biogas and Engineering Thermophysics Society of Chinese Higher Education Association, and the president unit of Henan Society of Agricultural Engineering, Henan Society of Renewable Energy and Henan Society of Agricultural Machinery.
