120 years, passing down the spark generation after generation. A top university, serving the country by improving agriculture. On July 6, Henan Agricultural University held a grand ceremony to celebrate the 120th anniversary of its founding and to promote the progress to build a world-class agricultural university with Chinese characteristics.
Commissioned by Henan Provincial Party Committee Secretary Lou Yangsheng and Governor Wang Kai, Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee and Organization Department Minister Chen Shun attended the conference and delivered a speech.
Wukongming, member of the Party Group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Li Gongle, Deputy Director of Henan People's Congress Standing Committee and Chairman of the Henan Federation of Trade Union, Song Zhenghui, Vice Governor of Henan Province, Huo Jinhua, Vice Chairman of the Henan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and retired provincial leaders Hu Tingji, Zhang Shijun, Zhang Guangzhi and Duan Xizhong attended the conference.
The 18 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, including Zhang Gaiping, Huang Lusheng, Chen Hualan, Dai Jingrui, Chen Wenfu, Xie Jianping, Li Defa, Li Tianlai, Jin Ningyi, Shen Jianzhong, Zhang Xinyou, Yao Bin, Xu Weigang, Hou Shuisheng, Qiao Shiyan and Wu Yiqiang, attended the conference and sit on the podium.
Secretary of Party Committee of Henan Agricultural University Wei Mengguan hosted the conference. The president of HAU, Mr. Jie Xiaolei, delivered a speech titled "120 years, passing down the spark generation after generation. A top university, serving the country by improving agriculture".
At 9:30 a.m., the ceremony kicked off with the singing of the national anthem by the whole audience.
Mr. Jie Xiaolei and Mr. Sun Tan, Vice President of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences signed a strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of both sides.
Qin Yinglin, an alumnus the Class of 1985 and chairman of Muyuan Foods, donated 1 billion yuan to help HAU build a world-class agricultural university with Chinese characteristics.
"We have to look ahead 30 years from a strategic vision, plan from a high starting point, manage a top-level design, focus on breakthroughs in the new round of building 'double first-class' university, improve quality and achieve higer rankings." Jie Xiaolei expressed the determination and confidence of Henan Agricultural University to build a world class agricultural university with Chinese characteristics.
“Huazhong Agricultural University and Henan Agricultural University deeply tied in history. Two shools carried out comprehensive and in-depth cooperation and formed a strong friendship and keep rooting for each other.” Gao Chi, Secretary of the Party Committee of Huazhong Agricultural University, recalled the deep friendship between the two universities.
“Zhengzhou University will join hands with Henan Agricultural University to undertake the mission of the times and live up to the people’s trust, to initiate a new chapter of Henan higher education together,” said Liu Jiongtian, Vice President of the Henan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Secretary of Party Committee of Zhengzhou University, looking forward to the development of the two universities.
"My study life at HAU gave me a motivation of my lifelong endeavor, and was a starting point for me to grow from a young student to a research scholar." Academician Wu Kongming, an alumnus of the Class of 1980, expressed heartfelt thanks his alma mater.
"To build a world class agricultural university is a long way to go, but the future is promising! Although the road is long, if you go, it will come; although the task is difficult, if you do it, it will be done!" Qin Yinglin, Class of 1985 alumnus, expressed his firm determination to help Henan Agricultural University build a world-class university with Chinese characteristics.
“Stay true to our original aspiration to nurture righteous people with moral education, and our founding mission to boost agricultural prosperity. Let educational achievements subtly influence and lastingly affect generations of students,” Zhang Gaiping, an alumnus of the Class of 1978 and director of the Longhu Lake Modern Immunology Laboratory, made a resounding vow of selfless dedication to the cause of education.
“We will inherit and carry forward the spirit of HAU, and strive to become a promising youth with patriotism, international vision and a heart for the world,”Wei Chengyu, an agronomy student of the Class of 2019 and the 2020 "Star of Self-improvement Chinese Students", demonstrated the ambition of devoting to agriculture on behalf of all students of HAU.
"The provincial government strongly supports Henan Agricultural University to build a world-class agricultural university with Chinese characteristics," said Chen Shun, conveying the expectations and support of Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government for Henan Agricultural University.
“We will adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, keep nurturing righteous people with moral education to boost agricultural prosperity. Carry forward the agricultural university spirit of ‘promoting agriculture with patriotism, seeking truth and innovation, integrity and simplicity, open with amibition’, and striving towards the goal of building a world-class agricultural university with Chinese characteristics. "Wei Mengguan issued a mobilization order for the new journey to all the faculty of HAU.
During the celebration, Henan Agricultural University also held high-end academic activities such as the "One Belt, One Road" International Agricultural Science and Technology Cooperation Forum of Henan & Chinese Academy of Engineering International Engineering Science and Technology Strategy high-end Forum.
