Recently, the Science and Technology and Informationization Department of Ministry of Education issued a notice on the establishment of key laboratories, and the "Animal Pathogens and Biosafety" laboratory proposed by our university was approved for establishment. The laboratory, which is based on the College of Veterinary Medicine, will be led by Professor Wei Zhanyong as the director.
The laboratory will conduct scientific research in five directions: tracing of important biosafety risk factors, research on the transmission process and interruption of risk factors, protection of susceptible animals from biosafety risk factor , environmental contamination and prevention and control of biosafety risk factors, and biosafety AI information system.It will solve major scientific problems related to the pathogenic mechanism of major diseases that affect human and animal health and safety, as well as immunological prevention and control technologies. The laboratory is committed to becoming a source of original scientific research achievements, a research and development base for breakthrough biosafety prevention and control products, and a training base for scientific and technological innovation talents.
The establishment of the laboratory will effectively promote the rapid development of preventive medicine, public health, and food hygiene, and significantly improve the overall level, comprehensive strength, and independent innovation ability of the relevant disciplines. It is of great significance for China's disease prevention and protection of people's health. The successful establishment of the laboratory is another high-level platform for the veterinary discipline in the field of national biosafety, which will provide strong support for HAU’s "Double First-Class" construction and the creation of a world-class agricultural university with Chinese characteristics.
