May 18, 2023

Most regions of China are experiencing their first heat wave of the year this week. China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue. Many areas have issued orange alerts for high temperatures.

Beijing saw its first hot day of the year with the real-time temperatures reaching 35 degrees on Monday. The temperatures in some regions of Shandong and Hebei provinces have seen a rapid increase in their maximum temperatures, touching 39 degrees on Tuesday.

East China's Shandong Province and central China's Henan Province are among the major grain production areas in the country. Now the wheat there grows into a crucial growing period. Experts said that the scorching heat will not affect the growth and the output."

GUO TIANCAI Professor Henan Agricultural University "So far the soil moisture is enough. And it was cold in the past few days. Now the wheat is in a vigorous stage, which is capable of coping with different situations. So the heat wave these days is not a big trouble for them to grow."
