Renowned Scientist Tracy Palmer Appointed as Dual Professor at HAU

On October 22, the university held an appointment ceremony at the Longzi Lake campus to welcome Professor Tracy Palmer, Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) and faculty member at Newcastle University, as a dual-appointed professor. University President Zhou Wei attended the ceremony and presented the appointment certificate to Professor Palmer. Representatives from various university departments, the College of Veterinary Medicine, and faculty members were also in attendance.

President Zhou Wei extended a warm welcome to Professor Palmer, highlighting the university’s history and achievements. He emphasized the institution’s commitment to international collaboration, noting its partnerships with over 70 universities and research institutes in more than 40 countries. President Zhou stated that Professor Palmer’s appointment would significantly advance the university's veterinary science program, particularly in scientific research, talent development, and global cooperation.

Professor Zhang Longxian, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, introduced Professor Palmer’s academic and professional background.

Expressing gratitude for the university’s support and trust, Professor Palmer pledged to contribute actively to the university’s growth and success.

About Professor Tracy Palmer Professor :

Tracy Palmer is currently affiliated with Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, where she serves as the Coordinator for the Microbiology and Human Health Research Theme. She was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 2018 and is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

A pioneering microbiologist, Professor Palmer is known for co-discovering the bacterial Tat protein secretion system and her significant contributions to identifying effector proteins in the Staphylococcus aureus Type VII secretion system, including EsaD, TspA, and TslA. She has published over 200 papers in leading academic journals such as PNAS, Nature Microbiology, and Nature Communications. Her accolades include the Royal Society’s Wolfson Research Merit Award, recognizing her groundbreaking contributions to microbiology.
